The Office of Legal Affairs at the University of Los Santos, San Andreas (ULSA) operates as a vital component of the Chancellor's Cabinet, working in synergy with various departments, including Student Affairs, Strategic Communications, Campus Security, and Executive Affairs. As part of the Office of Legal Affairs, you will join a dedicated team of legal professionals committed to supporting the university's legal needs. The Vice Chancellor of Legal Affairs leads the department and collaborates closely with the university's leadership, including the Chancellor and Provost, to ensure legal compliance and navigate the complex legal landscape of the higher education sector.

As an Attorney, your primary mission is to provide comprehensive legal support to the university, the Chancellor, and the Provost.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Offer expert legal guidance and advice to the university's leadership, assisting in decision-making to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, agreements, and legal documents to safeguard the university's interests.
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements, policies, procedures, and other legal documents to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with university leadership to develop and update institutional policies and procedures, ensuring legal compliance and alignment with the university's mission.
  • Manage and oversee legal matters, including potential litigation. Work with external counsel as needed and represent ULSA in legal proceedings when required.
  • Identify and assess legal risks facing the university and develop strategies to mitigate them, thereby protecting the institution's reputation and assets.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and regulations affecting higher education, advising the university on necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Provide legal training and education to university staff and administrators on various legal matters, promoting a culture of compliance.
  • Ensure the university's adherence to data privacy regulations and manage legal aspects related to data protection and cybersecurity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of San Andreas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience, with preference given to candidates who have experience in higher education law or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal laws applicable to higher education institutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small legal team.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to anticipate legal issues and provide proactive solutions.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and professional standards in legal practice.
